Thank you for your interest in driving with Apex Logistics Services!
Below are a few of our most Frequently Asked Questions. If you have any remaining questions, please don’t hesitate to call, text, or email us.
What is your pay structure for Company Drivers?
We pay 30% of the line haul, plus a Weekly Guarantee
We pay every Friday for the previous calendar week (Sunday-Saturday).
What is your pay structure for Owner Operators?
We pay 80% of the line haul, and 100% of fuel surcharge (we even break out a fuel surcharge on flat-rate broker loads) as well as 100% of detention and layover.
Our only weekly settlement fees are $340 for all insurances, $250 for trailer rental, and $50 for ELD/plate/Drivewyze (plus direct costs of the truck that are paid by us - fuel, tolls, etc)
What is the Home Time?
You can generally expect to be home every weekend from Fri night or Sat morning until Mon morning
What are the hours?
We work hard, within the legal limits of the ELD, to maximize income for the drivers and the truck. The hours vary from day-to-day, but you should expect to use your entire clock most days (11 hours driving, 14 hours on-duty, or both). We continue bringing in more drop-and-hook lanes, to improve efficiency and increase loaded miles, but this can’t be guaranteed.
We do have some flexibility around the time of day that you drive, so let us know your preference. Typically it’s best if you like to start early and our drop-and-hook freight is typically ready the night before.
What type of trucks are in your fleet?
We operate all Freightliner Cascadia’s with automatic transmission. 2019-2021 trucks with both double bunks and shorter sleeper cabs.
Which ELD do you use?
We utilize the Motive ELD. You can click here for a 40-sec introduction to the ELD interface.
What type of trailers/freight do you haul?
We haul Dry Van general freight (no hazmat, rarely any tanker-endorsed products), ranging from granola bars and cereal to paper rolls and cardboard. We also offer Power-Only to our customers, typically dry vans but occasionally flatbed, step-deck, containers, etc.
Where do you operate?
While we continue to expand our range across the country, our ‘bread and butter’ is servicing the upper-Midwest with a hub-and-spoke model centered around Eastern Iowa. We run loads every day to Chicago, Minneapolis, Omaha, St Louis, and surrounding areas.
Do you pay on W2 or 1099?
We pay company drivers exclusively on W2, as is the only legal way (and the most fair way for the driver). Owner Operators, as true subcontractors, can lease-on and will be paid a weekly settlement via 1099.
